Players can take up to four members into battle with units coming in five different classes (Support, Vanguard, Sniper, Heavy and Support), each with their advantages and disadvantages. Support’s weapon of choice is the Lancer and utilizes healing and motivational abilities. Vanguards serve as the tanks with their Retro Lancers. Snipers, equipped with the Longshot, cover allies from long distances. Heavy’s and their Mulchers plant themselves into a spot and lay down suppressing fire. Finally, Scouts and their Gnashers can move fast and hide from enemy troops. There’s lots of variety and strategic decisions to consider when building a team, especially since you can’t take every class with you and non-Hero characters can permanently die if you’re not careful.
Refreshingly, The Phantom Pain seems to be much more about playing a game than watching it. With more freedom than before, it will be interesting to see how large the mission areas themselves will get, especially when compared to the space traveled to get there. The game world, people especially, will get accustomed to your exploits and strengthen themselves against your tactics. This may also mean though, that there are areas you will find yourself revisiting.

Even though Gears Tactics struggles with delivering a consistently engaging story, it never fails in delivering entertaining gameplay. Each Gears Tactics mission plays like an XCOM level with a Gears of War skin, with players selecting their squad and then completing a variety of objectives while having to account for enemies, status effects, and environmental hazards. Anyone expecting to just run head-first into encounters will have a hard time, as the game does require a genuine strategy for players to make it through most of the levels and enemy encount
In charge of the Age of Empires real time strategy series, the recently created World's Edge studio is headed up by Shannon Loftis. As the caretaker of the franchise, World's Edge is in charge of partnerships and all Age of Empires related projects such as Age of Empires 4 , which is currently being developed by Relic Entertainment. Other partners include Tantalus Media and Forgotten Empires, two studios who helped create Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition . For the series' first foray into the rapidly evolving turn-based tactics genre, **Gears Tactics ** is an impressively balanced and well constructed strategic experience. Managing to avoid the pitfalls of some other genre-crossing series (for all that is good about it, the first Halo Wars game had some pretty rough edges), Gears Tactics hits many of the right notes for a squad tactics title, including a fairly fleshed out equipm.ent customization system and some very involved soldier skill trees that allow for specialization that is critical to a rounded battle experience. While it is easy to see how these features have lead to comparisons to the likes of XCOM (which is amongst the highest of praises bestowable on a young turn based tactics series), the game manages to retain the unique flavor of its source material, finely portraying the gritty world that plays hosts to the ongoing conflict between mankind and the Locust hordes, with some clever, thematic mechanics to match . As adaptations go, this shifting of the Xbox flagship Gears series to a genre more about careful consideration than frenetic aggression has gone exceptionally smoot
Despite some stumbles, Splash Damage has successfully taken the essence of the Gears franchise and transferred it into a turn-based strategy SLG game tips. Gears Tactics is a true Gears title with a campaign that builds and expands the franchise’s lore, all while introducing new characters and adding new wrinkles to old ones. The turn-based gameplay fits well within the universe, providing plenty of strategy both on and off the field. Combined with some genuinely excellent main missions, Gears Tactics comes together nicely. It does frequently stumble thanks to the repetitive and frequent side quests that vastly hurt the pacing, but remains a joy to play throughout its many hours. Gears Tactics is a solid turn-based game that’ll make Gears and tactics fans happy.
There is plenty of personality in every turn, Quiet hops, D-Dog pees, and the D-Walker can lay some smack-down on an unaware enemy. The areas are dense with content and dense with detail. The codex calls do not seem to be present, at least not yet, but intel is fed to you by request to fill up the audio void. Since Snake seems to be making more sounds during gameplay than the cutscenes preceding it, it is also nice to have the option to play the songs you collected along the way. Snake lends an extra bit of subtle personality in how you pass time by smoking a cigar while he waits. Fortunately, it does not look like you can be spotted while smoking either, at least at a distance.
